New Zealand will adopt an aggressive approach when they take on arch-rivals Australia in their opening match of the ICC Champions Trophy 2017, said head coach Mike Hesson. "You don't want to go home feeling you haven't fired a shot," Hesson said while speaking at a press conference in Birmingham on Wednesday.

New Zealand had beaten Australia in a home series four months ago, winning 2-0. "We've had a bit of success against Australia in the recent past and we'll certainly draw on that. We're pretty clear how we want to play the game. It's up to the opposition whether they allow us to do that," he added.

The Kiwis had a memorable practice game, knocking off 357 against Sri Lanka in Birmingham. Australia's warm-up match against Pakistan was washed out.

Asked about his views on the pitch for the match, Hesson replied, "The wicket is really flat, it's a really good surface. But if you do whack it in, especially with the new ball, there was a little bit of variety in bounce, little bit two paced in nature," he added.
